Common Wealth Common Ground
A Charitable Incorporated Organisation
Common Wealth Common Ground is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).
A CIO is a modern charitable structure — purpose-built for organisations like ours. It gives us:
- Full charitable status and all the benefits that brings
- The ability to receive Gift Aid on donations
- Credibility with grant bodies and funders
- A clear legal structure that protects trustees
- A constitution that locks our mission in permanently
Our charitable objects
The legal purposes of the charity
The relief of poverty, financial hardship, and deprivation — including fuel poverty, food poverty, and homelessness — through the provision of community support, skills exchange, practical assistance, and the acquisition and stewardship of land for community benefit.
The advancement of community development and social inclusion through the operation of a community exchange platform, partnership with community organisations, and the establishment of Sanctuary Farms as centres of food growing, healing, recovery, worship, and resilience.
The promotion of environmental sustainability and regenerative land use through food forests, permaculture growing systems, and community resilience programmes.

As a registered charity, Common Wealth Common Ground can claim Gift Aid on donations from UK taxpayers — adding 25p for every £1 donated at no cost to the donor. Gift Aid is available on all donations made through commongrounds.world by UK taxpayers.
To qualify, donors must confirm: “I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year it is my responsibility to pay any difference.”
Accounts and reporting
As a registered CIO, Common Wealth Common Ground files annual accounts and a trustees' report with the Charity Commission. These are publicly available at charity.commission.gov.uk once filed.
